Welcome to teofilos.org

This page presents a quick overview in English about the teofilos.org project. For the actual learning site, please visit the Portuguese-language section.

Who we are
Teófilos is an on-line community of Portuguese-language Bible students. It is an inter-denominational e-learning initiative currently owned by three bible schools in Portugal: Independent Baptist, Assemblies of God, and Baptist Convention.
The name “Teófilos”
The name Teófilos comes from Theophilus, the recipient of Luke and Acts — he who could not verify the good news in person, but received the Word through distance learning! (see Luke 1.3-4)
E-learning
E-learning means learning through the use of the internet — an indispensable tool in distance learning.
Available courses
Our first course, New Testament Survey, started in March 2006. It is part of a basic curriculum of twenty subjects covering theology, Bible study, and some books of the Bible. Other curricula shall follow in the middle term, including pedagogy, church planting, and a post-graduate studies programme.
Learner profile
The ideal student is fluent in Portuguese, wants to study theology but cannot be an intern in a Portuguese-language school, has university-level learning capacities, and possesses both the hardware and the know-how to use internet-based technologies like e-mail, web pages, and online forums.
Among our potential students are young professionals, Christian leaders, and retired people.
Enrolment
Candidates may enrol as students of any one of the three sponsoring schools. Enrolment forms are available digitally on request. Fees are paid directly to the enrolling school.
Learning process
Taking a course via the internet is somewhat different and, at the same time, somewhat the same as taking a course in a classroom. Each course runs for about fifteen weeks. As in any classroom setting, courses typically include course projects, reading, quizzes, and weekly interaction assignments. However, the interaction will all be via the internet. Students submit their work and respond to questions online and then interact with their colleagues’ ideas. They even take their tests online. And just like in a classroom, students get to know each other and their teacher through interaction with the course material.
Get involved
If you fit the required student profile, you should be reading this in Portuguese! Follow the enrolment process. Look on the Portuguese section of this website for more information and the addresses of the three participating schools.
If you are a church leader, see which of your members fit an e-learning profile. The teaching they receive may be immediately applied in your local context.
If you are a teacher or director of a bible school, we would be happy to hear of your school’s interest in joining the Teófilos project.
Also, do get in touch with us if you are willing to pray, donate financially or volunteer.
